“ My Father! “
A very good friend once told me: “Paul, many people don’t believe in God just because He’s called “Father” – and all they got from their father were beatings!”
This poem has obviously been written by someone who has discovered that God is a real father and not a beast! He’s a real “Dad”!!
Oh, my father!
My earliest heartbeat
Is for you
The first breath of my life
Is for you
The first steps that I take
Are for you
Sweet father
My father!
This marvellous world
Which is in my head
Imagines nothing less than life
Every time I think of you.
With my eyes wide open I dream
Sweet memories
deep in my soul
Worn down and disoriented by life’s storms
New feelings
I’m trying to understand
So that I can trust myself, and thrust myself,
Into your arms
Once more my father!
In the sweetness of your face
Oh,
My blessed Lord!
Stretch out your hand
Lead me
Don’t let me waver
So as to fall into the abyss
Of iniquity
Keep me safe
In your strong arms
Wrap me round
With your Spirit
Overflowing with love
Father!
My Father!

(translated by Paul)
The story of the Prodigal Son in the Gospel of Luke (chapter 1) describes a son who has an incredibly prodigal father – the father he never knew but who, on the darkest day of his life, showed himself to be the only one to whom he could turn!
If that’s you right now, throw yourself into your Heavenly Father’s arms, and please, please, get in touch with us at the church!
